Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF)
Wednesday, July 13, 2022
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
The Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) is leveraging ORNL’s science capabilities to solve challenges in AM by improving performance characteristics of AM components, optimizing systems and software to achieve mainstream manufacturing, developing qualification frameworks to create born-certified components and developing a comprehensive understanding of process capabilities and limitations through physics-based simulation and advanced characterization. The MDF is currently focused on four additive manufacturing processes including powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition (arc and laser metal deposition), material extrusion, and binder jetting. Materials used include metals, polymers, sand, waxes, paper, and photopolymers. More>
We will take a bus to the nearby MDF. This tour is included in the conference registration fee. The MDF at ORNL requires that all foreign nationals submit information well before the start of the conference, and that deadline is June 14. US Citizens will be permitted to enter the MDF facility with a US Passport or a state issued driver’s license.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Main Campus
The ORNL Tour of Main Campus on Friday July 15 has been cancelled due to renewed COVID-19 restrictions. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Virtual tours are the next best thing to actually being at ORNL. These fully immersive tours allow viewers to look up, down, and spin 360 degrees as you virtually “walk-through” ORNL’s facilities.
