Technical Tours
NIST Tour, Friday, July 19, 2024
8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
We are excited to announce a tour of the NIST Boulder facility (Applied Chemicals and Materials Division | NIST). During the tour, we will visit labs that serve projects in the areas of metal and polymer additive manufacturing, 2D materials, hydrogen economy fuel transport, carbon capture supercritical CO2, extreme atom probe tomography, and cannabis breathalyzer development. Research equipment and measurement techniques encountered on the tour will include mechanical testing in extreme environments, x-ray computed tomography, x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, optical coherence tomography, atom probe tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Attendees will be back to Golden by 1:30 PM local time for those making travel plans.
Please note that NIST is a controlled-access facility. A separate registration must be completed no later than May 19th, 2024. This is separate from the conference registration and is required for access to the facility. Guests who do not complete this registration will not be permitted to enter NIST’s campus. Additionally, please note that a you will need to register for the transportation fee when you register for the ASPE conference. If you are unsure if you will be attending the tour please still register now just to be sure that you are able to enter the NIST facility if you are able to attend.
ADAPT Tour, Wednesday, July 17, 2024
This tour is included in the conference registration fee and will be on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines. ADAPT is a multi-disciplinary additive manufacturing research center and industry consortium, incorporating mechanical engineering, metallurgy and materials science, computer science, and physics at Colorado School of Mines. The research strengths of the ADAPT center include materials development and characterization, processing-structure-property relationships, AM process control and part qualification, machine learning and big data mining, and data informatics (https://adapt.mines.edu/).
