Dr. Richard M. Seugling
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Dr. Richard M. Seugling is a leader in the field of Manufacturing Engineering, currently serving as the Manufacturing Engineering Section Leader within the Materials Engineering Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). With over 20 years of experience supporting experimental programs at LLNL, Dr. Seugling has made significant contributions to advancing precision manufacturing and metrology technologies.

Dr. Seugling began his career at LLNL in the Precision Systems and Manufacturing group, where he played a pivotal role in the National Ignition Campaign. His expertise then guided him to the Defense Technologies Engineering Division, focusing on High Energy Density Science. Prior to his tenure at LLNL, he completed a postdoctoral appointment with the National Research Council at the National Institute for Standards and Technology. There, he explored innovative methods for defining the unit of mass and force calibration of instrumented indentation machines.

Throughout his career, Dr. Seugling has authored over 50 publications and holds multiple patents, underscoring his commitment to innovation and excellence. His active involvement in international organizations and as an associate editor for the Journal of Precision Engineering highlights his dedication to the global precision engineering community.

Dr. Seugling represents LLNL at the Interagency Manufacturing Operations Group within the National Security Complex and is a corporate member of The International Academy for Production Engineering. He holds a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

As a candidate for ASPE President, Dr. Seugling aims to leverage his extensive experience and leadership skills to further the mission of ASPE, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the precision engineering community.
