33rd Annual Meeting
Sunday – Friday, November 4 – November 9, 2018
Red Rock Casino • Resort • Spa
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Conference Chair:
Kate M. Medicus, Ruda Cardinal, Inc.
Huub Janssen (Janssen Precision Engineering)
Synopsis:
Principles for accuracy, play, stiffness, friction.
Design solutions and mechatronic context.
Compliant mechanisms, flexure design.
External disturbances: Thermal effects, Vibrations
Intention:
The tutorial is meant for mechanical designers entering the field of precision engineering where positioning down to nanometric levels is required. Apart from positioning in ambient environment, also positioning challenges in vacuum or cryogenic environment will be briefly addressed. The course will give some theoretical background but is mainly focusing on practical implementation of various design solutions which can be used in this field of engineering. By introduction of some practical cases, a good understanding of the critical issues which could compromise high precision will be highlighted and design solutions will be presented and discussed.
