| Precision Engineering Principles This four-hour class introduces students to key principles and ideas often used by practicing precision engineers. These generally are straightforward in concept, if not obvious, but often go unrecognized even by experienced scientists, engineers and technicians. Some of the topics include: error budgets, alignment principles, error separation techniques, exact-constraint (or kinematic) design, and thermal management. These are taught largely using figures and examples, but a few cases involve engineering-level mathematics. The booklet contains the presentation slides with additional text that usually goes deeper than time allows during the lecture. This booklet should serve as a useful reference for years to come.
