Senior Mechanical Engineer (Dynamic Systems)

Plantation, FL

The Engineer is skilled in the development of high-speed flexure systems. This position is responsible for product development, design, test, and assembly. Candidates must be highly innovative and enjoy working in a dynamic and creative environment within a multi-disciplinary team. Candidates should demonstrate independence and strong knowledge of subject area and also of experts in other subject areas for collaboration.


  • Create concepts for miniature, actuated Opto-mechanical/electrical systems
  • Design, build, and test novel systems
  • Identify and establish development partnerships with outside experts
  • Stay current in new and emerging technologies in the field
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide technicians in the build and test process

QUALIFICATIONS (The ideal candidate with have strong expertise in some of these areas)

  • Subject area expertise in one or more of the following areas is required
    • Flexure design—with traditional and novel materials (carbon fiber, fused silica)
    • Small motion, low mass, high frequency actuators design (e.g. piezo, voice coil)
    • Dynamic system design, modeling, analysis, and testing
    • Spectral Analysis/Fourier Analysis/ Modal Analysis
    • Instrumentation: Vibrometer, Capacitance Probes, Oscilloscopes
    • 1st principles modeling and analysis skills
    • Simulation, MATLAB, LabView, ANSYS, COMSOL
  • Subject area knowledge in any of the following is desired, but not essential
    • LabVIEW, Matlab programming
    • Data collection, signal processing, analysis, and presentation
    • Micro fabrication
    • Joining techniques for actuators and flexures in micro systems
  • Must be confident in a highly dynamic and creative environment


  • BS in mechanical, optical, electrical, or materials engineering required
  • MS or Ph. D. in mechanical, optical, electrical, materials engineering, mechatronics, photonics, or physics is preferred
